Kephart Announces Wildfire Prevention Grants

February 27, 2026

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Dallas Kephart (R-Cambria/Clearfield) today announced over $21,000 in grants awarded to four fire departments in the 73rd Legislative District.

The funding allows for the purchase of critical wildfire suppression equipment, protective gear, communications tools and training.

The departments receiving funding are:

   • The Hastings Volunteer Fire Company - $3,079.
   • The Karthaus Volunteer Fire Company - $1,403.
   • The Nicktown Fire Company - $2,276.
   • The Westover Area Volunteer Fire - $15,000.

“These funds are essential for small, rural fire companies serving small communities,” said Kephart. “I’m grateful to see this funding invested in our community and continuously proud of the work our volunteer firefighters do to keep us safe and protected.”

The departments were given funding through a cost-share grant program that provides up to $15,000 to rural fire companies serving municipalities with less than 10,000 residents.

The money comes through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
